Clarence Hamilton, who in 1886 brought an all-metal spring-air rifle to the Plymouth Iron Windmill Company — whose general manager fired it, said "Boy, that's a daisy!", and gave the product its name.
History of Daisy Manufacturing Co.
The windmill company gave the air rifles away free with every windmill it sold. Within a few years it was clear that the giveaway was more popular than the product, and by 1895 the firm had abandoned windmills entirely and renamed itself the Daisy Manufacturing Company. Daisy went on to define the American BB gun.
